Media Announcement: launch of the Australian Privacy Commissioner's Newsletter

View printable version of this page

As part of its efforts in raising privacy awareness and compliance among organisations and agencies, the Privacy Commissioner, Ms Karen Curtis, today announced the launch of a new electronic publication – Privacy Matters.

“My Office is committed to encouraging best practice in privacy and Privacy Matters will form an integral component of this endeavour by bringing together a host of information pertinent to one of our core stakeholder groups – privacy officers and information management professionals,” Ms Curtis said.

To be published quarterly on the Office’s website and distributed to subscribers by email, Privacy Matters aims to promote awareness of privacy concerns, detail the Commissioner’s position on emerging issues, and update privacy professionals on developments and events in the field.

Privacy Matters is one way in which we are assisting businesses and other organisations to help them meet their responsibilities under the Privacy Act,” said Ms Curtis.

The inaugural edition explores issues such as the Office’s move to increase the use of Determinations as a tool to resolve complaints more expeditiously, and developments with the APEC Privacy Framework as we move towards Australia’s hosting of APEC and its related meetings in 2007.
