My Health My Privacy My Choice - a consumer's guide to privacy and health information (November 2002)

My Health My Privacy My Choice provides individuals with information about their new rights and choices into how their personal information is held in the private health sector. The consumer's guide gives an overview of 'health services' covered by the Privacy Act, what kinds of personal information are considered 'health information' and through a variety of scenarios and discussions, outlines key privacy rights in relation to collection, use and disclosure and access to personal health information which is held in the private health sector.

Health Information and the Privacy Act 1988: A Short Guide for the Private Health Sector (December 2001)

The short guide provides an introduction to the Commonwealth privacy laws as they relate to the private health sector. The guide gives an overview of privacy in the private health sector, including which private health services are covered by the Privacy Act and some brief information on each of the ten National Privacy Principles (or NPPs) and how they are applied in the health context. The guide is a starting point for understanding how to apply good privacy practice in the health care setting.

Some Privacy Issues for Doctors (December 2001)

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner was invited, by the Medicare, to produce some information on health privacy for inclusion in the December 2001 edition of the regular magazine Forum - which is circulated to approximately 40,000 doctors. The information, produced as an insert, briefly describes the private sector amendments to the Privacy Act, including the ten National Privacy Principles, as they relate to doctors in the private sector. Some scenarios that are experienced by doctors, in the delivery of health services, are discussed.

Some Privacy Issues for Pharmacists (December 2001)

Some scenarios that are experienced by pharmacists, in the delivery of health services, are discussed.
